History

Byakko

Kudara-ji is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku and is an ancient temple of the Tendai school. It is named after being modeled on Ryoun-ji in the Kingdom of Baekje. During Oda Nobunaga's burning of Mount Hiei, this temple also suffered from warfare, but was later restored. From the temple grounds, one can enjoy a magnificent view overlooking Lake Biwa and it is known as one of the "Three Mountains of Kotou." Particularly in autumn, the crimson leaves are spectacular and many worshippers visit this beautiful sacred place. In this deep mountainous and quiet environment, one can offer prayers with a peaceful heart.
