History

Byakko

Eishoji Temple is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Obihiro, in the Tokachi district of Hokkaido. Established in 1903, it was founded to serve the spiritual needs of settlers who came to cultivate the northern frontier. The temple's mountain name is Jisshozan, and it enshrines Shakyamuni Buddha as its principal image. Through the hardships of pioneering life, the temple offered compassion and solace equally to all who sought it. Generation after generation, prayers have been passed down, and the temple continues to quietly support the people of Obihiro.
