Nishikiyama Tenmangu is a tenmangu shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning. It is said to have been established by settlers in Ebetsu who prayed for the education and advancement of learning among their children. The tranquil grounds, surrounded by the rich natural beauty of Nopporo, create an atmosphere truly befitting a place of learning. During examination season, many students and guardians visit to pray for success, and the shrine also receives devoted worship from those engaged in calligraphy and literary arts.
