kushima jinja

Kushima Shrine is enshrined in Kushima City, Miyazaki Prefecture, with Hikohohodemi no Mikoto (Yamasachi-hiko) as its principal deity, accompanied by twelve other deities. Hikohohodemi is famous as the hero of the Sea-Luck and Mountain-Luck myth, and has long been venerated as a guardian of rich fishing, maritime safety, and matchmaking. Located at the southern tip of ancient Hyuga Province, this land has been a sacred place blessed with abundant nature since antiquity.
