History

Byakko

Known as the head temple of the Shingon Daigo sect. This ancient temple was established in the Heian period by a disciple of Kobo Daishi, and boasts extensive grounds comprising the Upper and Lower Daigo. It is also famous as a cherry blossom viewing site and served as the venue for Toyotomi Hideyoshi's celebrated 'Daigo Flower Viewing.' It holds numerous national treasures and important cultural properties, and has been carefully preserved as a repository of Buddhist culture.
