History

Shigaumi Jinja is an ancient shrine enshrined on Shika Island, floating in Hakata Bay, dedicated to the deity of the sea. Enshrining the three deities Watatsumi, it has long received the devoted faith of fishermen and sailors seeking sea safety and abundant catches. Located on Shika Island, also called the "Sea Repository of Japan," this shrine holds a special place.
