Tomyo Jinja is the protective kami shrine of the Tomyo district, located in Moji Ward of Kitakyushu City. Moji is a strategically important location facing the Kanmon Strait, and since ancient times it has been a place through which many people have passed. It is believed that this shrine was established in this coastal area to pray for the safety of voyages and the prosperity of the community. The precincts overlooking the Kanmon landscape continue to bring solace to travelers and local residents alike.
