About
History
Ita Jinja is a properly established shrine of high standing that has gathered devoted reverence since ancient times as the Ichinomiya of Echigo Province, enshrining Ōkuninushi no Mikoto. Its founding traces back to ancient times, and as the kami of nation-building in Echigo, it has watched over the region's development. The unusual shrine name "Ita" is said to derive from Ōkuninushi no Mikoto having "sat (i)" in this place. Located near the Japan Sea, in an area that has long prospered as a key point for maritime traffic, it has continued to pray for the safety and prosperity of many people. It is a wonderful shrine that combines the prestige of an Ichinomiya with an approachable atmosphere.
