Kuwanomiidera, also known as Soho Yakushi, is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect nestled in the hills of Azuchi, Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture. Its mountain name is Kinugasayama and its principal image is the Medicine Buddha (Yakushi Nyorai). Founded by Joue, the temple has long served as a place of healing and longevity for pilgrims throughout the region. The Azuchi area flourished as a hub of Lake Biwa water transport, and Kuwanomiidera stood at its spiritual center.
