History

Byakko

Officially named Joshoji, this Time-sect temple is popularly known as Kinomoto Jizo. Its principal object of worship is a hidden Jizo Bodhisattva statue, with a large bronze image standing about six meters tall in the precinct — counted among Japan's three great Jizo statues. Revered as the Jizo of the Eyes, it has long drawn worshippers seeking relief from eye ailments. Situated along the old Hokurikudo highway, the temple was also a place of prayer for the safety of travelers and merchants passing through the post town.
