Zensui-ji is an ancient temple said to have been founded in the Nara period. It received its name "Zensui" (good water) from the sacred water that springs forth in the grounds, which is said to have cured Emperor Kanmu's illness. This sacred water continues to flow within the temple grounds today, receiving the prayers of many people seeking healing from illness. The principal image of Yakushi Nyorai is believed to be a work from the Heian period and is known as a beautiful Buddhist statue. It is counted as one of the three temples of the Konan region and is also cherished as a famous spot for autumn foliage, being a quiet mountain temple.
