It holds distinction as the head temple of the Teishi school lineage, and is affectionately known by the local name Nittaisan. The temple has long served as a center of faith in the community. Within its grounds lies the grave of hired foreigner Carl Kiyohara (1863–1904), a trace of the Meiji era. Grounded in the Lotus Sutra, it continues to receive many visitors today.
