Eda Jinja is an extremely important sacred site as the stage of Japanese mythology. Enshrined at Abakirahara where Izanagi no Mikoto performed misogi purification, it has been revered as the very place where the gods of Japan were born. It is the source of mythology where Amaterasu Omikami and many other deities were born. As a sacred place of purification and cleansing recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, people have long visited seeking purification of mind and body. Especially many visit at life milestones and new beginnings, receiving the power to start anew with a pure heart—truly the spiritual wellspring of Japan.
