Aoigadake Jinja is enshrined at the summit of Aoigadake in Yamanouchi, Miyakonojo—truly a sacred place in the heavens. As its name suggests, Aoigadake with its beautiful verdant appearance has been revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times. The view from the mountain peak is magnificent, with a panoramic vista of the Miyakonojo basin. Since ancient times it has been the object of mountain worship, and as a shrine dedicated to the mountain deity it has gathered the faith of local people. The path of climbing to make one's worship is indeed part of spiritual practice. The refreshing air and sacred atmosphere encountered at the summit give visitors a special experience that purifies their hearts.
