Mieken Gokoku Jinja is a shrine dedicated to the noble spirits who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. The spirits of those from Mie Prefecture who perished in wars since the Meiji era rest peacefully in this place. Situated on a high ground in Tsu, this shrine is visited by many people with prayers for peace and gratitude. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom beautifully, as if consoling the spirits of the war dead. The shrine also plays an important role in conveying the memory of war to future generations.
