History

Byakko

Kamakura Jinja is a shrine dedicated to Prince Moriyoshi (Moriyo-shi Shinno), a relatively new shrine founded by order of the Meiji Emperor during the Meiji period. Prince Moriyoshi was the imperial son of Emperor Go-Daigo and devoted himself to the overthrow of the Kamakura shogunate, meeting a tragic end at this location. Also known as 'Oto no Miya,' he is revered as a deity of warding off misfortune. The grounds contain the remains of an underground chamber where the prince was confined, allowing visitors to feel the weight of history. Many people visit to seek the strength to overcome life's trials, drawing inspiration from the prince's indomitable spirit in facing adversity.
