History

Byakko

Hijiri Shrine stands in the Gyotoku district of Tottori City, facing the old Shikano road that runs near the Sendai River. The shrine counts merchants from the central shopping district among its parishioners and is celebrated for its Shinkosai procession held every two years, when a mikoshi and festival floats travel through the streets. Locals affectionately call it Hijiri-san. The shrine hall, built during the Edo period, is designated a prefectural protected cultural property, and the sacred grove is a city-designated conservation woodland. The Shinko procession is registered as a Tottori Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
