History
Washio Atago Jinja is a shrine famous as a kami protecting against fire, enshrined on Mount Atago in Fukuoka. It is said to have been invited from the Atago Shrine in Kyoto, and is known for its blessings of fire prevention and business prosperity. From the summit of Mount Atago, one can overlook Hakata Bay, and it has long been revered by those praying for maritime safety. Particularly notable is the large number of visitors during the first three days of the New Year, making it one of the most visited shrines in Kyushu. As a kami presiding over fire, many people from restaurants and factories continue to visit this community-rooted shrine today.
