Minobu-san Kuonji is a renowned temple that serves as the head temple of the Nichiren school of Buddhism, boasting a history of over seven hundred years. It began when Saint Nichiren established a hermitage in 1274, and it is known as the sacred place where the saint spent his final years. Cradled by the spiritual peak of Minobu-san, this temple is particularly famous for its spring cherry blossoms, attracting visitors from throughout the nation. The solemn halls that transmit the teachings of the eternal Buddha, combined with the beautiful natural scenery of each season, create a landscape reminiscent of the Pure Land itself. With the mausoleum of Saint Nichiren also present, it continues to serve as a spiritual center that sustains the hearts of many people today.
