Amatsu Jinja is a shrine of high prestige that has gathered faith since ancient times as the Ichinomiya of Echigo Province. It enshrines Amaterasu Ōmikami and the heavenly deities, and has protected this land of Itoigawa since the age of the gods. Itoigawa has long been known as a source of jade, and Amatsu Jinja has been cherished as a treasure of the region along with this beautiful gemstone. Located on a scenic coast facing the Japan Sea, the shrine receives devoted faith from those engaged in fishing and agriculture as a deity bestowing the blessings of the sea and mountains.
