History
Genjin Jinja, enshrined in Naka, Nakagawa City, is a venerable shrine dedicated to the three deities of Sumiyoshi. As the name "Genjin" (present deity) suggests, the faith is based on the belief that the kami appear in reality to guide people. Sumiyoshi no Okami has long been revered as the deity of maritime safety and purification. Together with the clear flow of the Nakagawa River, it has been beloved by local people as a shrine bringing purification of body and mind and good fortune. Living up to its name of "present deity," it is held in deep faith as a shrine bringing real benefits to the wishes of worshippers, and particularly many people visit at life's turning points.
