History
Miyako Hachiman-gu, enshrined in the center of Miyako City, is a venerable shrine with Hachiman Daijin as its principal deity. Long cherished as the tutelary shrine of Miyako, it is particularly known for its blessings of military prowess and victory. From the era of the Shimazu clan, the devotion of the warrior class has been deep, and today it remains a representative shrine of Miyako visited by many worshippers. Its magnificent main hall and grounds are a source of pride for Miyako citizens, and during festival seasons, the cheerful sounds of festival music echo throughout. Those facing important contests or life milestones visit to seek the mighty protection of Hachiman.
