History
Okabura Shrine in Atami-cho, Koriyama, Fukushima, traces its origin to 1144 when farmers of Asaka District, grateful to the spirit of Kamakura Gongoro Kagemasa — a retainer of Minamoto no Yoshiie who had shot down a great serpent with five kabura arrows in 1089 — built a shrine called Goryo-miya at the spot where the second arrow had fallen. The twelve-piece kagura performed at the New Year and seasonal grand festivals is preserved by a local association and performed at shrines throughout the Koriyama area.
