History

Soma Myoken-miya Daikami-kawa Jinja is a distinctive shrine located in Kamikawa-cho. It is said to have begun when people who migrated to Hokkaido from the Soma region brought with them their ancestral faith in Myoken. Centering on the worship of Myoken Bodhisattva (the North Star), it has been cherished as a deity of directions and evil-warding. Surrounded by the magnificent nature of the Daisetsuzan mountain range, this shrine has served as an important spiritual support for pioneering settlers. As a star deity, it continues to be revered by many for its divine virtues of guiding life's path and opening one's destiny.
