History

Byakko

Oomononushi Shrine is located in Omono-cho, Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, and has long been revered as the tutelary shrine of the local communities of the former Omono-cho and Omono Village. The principal deity, Oomononushi-no-Okami, is associated with nation-building, commerce, and medicine. The area, historically known as Omono-ura, was an important maritime port connecting the capital with western Japan from the medieval period. There is a tradition that Minamoto no Yoshitsune set sail from this harbor when he fled Kyoto after falling out with his brother Yoritomo. The shrine has been cherished as a guardian of maritime safety and commercial prosperity.
