Chikubu-shima Jinja is an ancient shrine situated on Chikubu Island, a mystical island floating in Lake Biwa. It enshrines the Benzaiten and has long been revered as a deity of the arts and wealth. The entire island is considered sacred ground, making it a special holy site that can only be visited by boat. On this island surrounded by the beautiful Lake Biwa landscape stand a National Treasure gate (Kara-mon) and important cultural property structures, whose solemnity touches the hearts of all pilgrims.
