History

Goryu Sonryuin is a Shugendo temple located in Hayashi, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, and serves as the head temple (sohonzan) of the Tendai Shugendo branch of mountain asceticism. The principal image is Juichimen Kannon (Eleven-Faced Guanyin), who watches over all beings in ten directions with eleven faces of compassion. This sacred site, where the traditions of five Shugendo lineages converge, has long served as a training ground for ascetic practitioners. Nestled in the mountains of Kurashiki, the temple continues to uphold its tradition of purification and spiritual discipline in a pristine natural setting.
