History
Nishina Shinmei Gū is a shrine of distinguished origin that enshrines Amaterasu Kōdai Jingū, the same as the Ise Grand Shrine. Founded in the late Heian period by the Nishina clan who ruled this land, its present main hall is a building from the mid-Muromachi period designated as a National Treasure. The main hall in Shinmei architectural style ranks among Japan's oldest, and through the twenty-year ritual reconstruction performed repeatedly, it continues to maintain its ancient form. For over eight hundred years at the foot of the Northern Alps in Omachi, it has gathered people's faith and is also called the 'Shinshū Ise.' It is a sacred place where one can make offerings with a pure heart in this land of mountains and clear waters.
