Igarashi-jinja

Igarashi Shrine is enshrined in Iida, Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. Listed in the Engishiki as a small-ranked shrine, it formerly held the rank of prefectural shrine. Revered as a guardian of the waters and lands of Echigo, it has received the devoted faith of farmers throughout the ages. The name Igarashi — meaning fierce storm — reflects the power of the natural forces this deity commands.
