History

Byakko

Toka Ebisu Jinja is enshrined in Higashi Koen in Hakata, a shrine of the god of commerce. With Kotoshironushi no Mikoto (Ebisu-sama) as the principal deity, it is widely known for its benefits of commercial prosperity and perfect fortune. In particular, the "Toka Ebisu Grand Festival" held every January is cherished as a winter tradition of Hakata, drawing many worshippers. With the chant "Bring the sacred bamboo for commercial prosperity," the grounds overflow with people seeking lucky bamboo branches. As a historic shrine that has continued to gather the faith of Hakata merchants, many business owners and merchants still visit to pray for success. It is a sacred place where people wish for commercial development, enveloped in the warm smile of Ebisu-sama.
