History
Genchoji is a Pure Land Buddhist temple in Shinshojichi-cho, Tottori City, formally known as Daito Daigan Shinshinzan Kuhoninzan Genchoji. The temple is widely known as the bodai-ji of Araki Mataemon, a master swordsman celebrated for his role in the Kajiya no Tsuji duel. Within the grounds stands a museum displaying Mataemon's personal effects and related historical materials, drawing visitors who wish to pay tribute to this legendary figure. The temple stands as a rare place where Buddhist devotion and the memory of a great warrior intertwine.
