History

Byakko

Kibana Shrine in Miyazaki City enshrines two deities: Hikohono-ninigi-no-mikoto and Konohana-Sakuya-hime. Within the shrine grounds remains the site of the "utsumuro" (sealed birthing chamber), where the goddess is said to have given birth to three divine children in the midst of flames to prove her fidelity to her husband. This powerful myth has drawn worshippers seeking blessings for safe childbirth and child-rearing since ancient times. Miyazaki is deeply connected to the descent of Ninigi, and this shrine preserves the living breath of that mythology.
