Ushio Jinja
History
Ushio Jinja is enshrined in the picturesque port town of Mimizu-cho, Hyuga, as the guardian deity of the sea. Mimizu is known as the 'place of embarkation' where Emperor Jinmu departed for his eastern expedition, and has long been a historic port town flourishing as a crucial hub for maritime traffic. As the deity governing the ebb and flow of tides, it has gathered the fervent faith of those engaged in fishing and maritime trade. Deeply connected to the legend of Emperor Jinmu's eastern expedition, it is revered as a deity blessing new voyages and life's fresh starts.
