Chikuzen Kokubunji is one of the provincial temples built by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period. This special temple was constructed nationwide with prayers for national peace and the flourishing of Buddhism. Positioned in Dazaifu, this temple flourished as a center of Buddhist culture in the Kyushu region. Throughout its long history, it has undergone several reconstructions and continues to be cherished by local people today. It is a precious place that conveys the beauty of classical Japanese Buddhist architecture to the present day.
