History
Ushioeten Tenmangu is enshrined in Tenjin-cho, Kochi City, and venerates Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of scholarship. As the place name Tenjin-cho indicates, this area has long held deep faith in the heavenly deity and has flourished as a center of learning in the community. Many students and those seeking knowledge visit to pay respects to Michizane's learning and virtue. Especially during examination season, many votive tablets with prayers for academic success are dedicated, and earnest prayers seeking the divine protection of the heavenly deity are offered.
