History

Tatsugi Kannon is said to have begun when Kobo Daishi Kukai carved an eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva into a living tree. This quiet temple rests in the mountains along the Seta River and has long been revered as a sacred site of Kannon devotion. Due to the rare auspicious origin of an Avalokiteshvara carved into living wood, it is believed to bestow benefits of advancement in life and prosperous business. The temple grounds are rich in nature and offer beautiful scenery in each season. Walking along the approach, one's heart is purified and enveloped in the warmth of the Bodhisattva's compassion. This simple and approachable Kannon sacred site continues to be beloved by local people.
