Mikami Jinja is an ancient shrine of mountain worship with Mount Mikami as its sacred object, enshrining Amanomikami as a shrine listed in the Engi Shiki of Ōmi Province. Mount Mikami, also called Ōmi Fuji, is a beautiful mountain that has long been beloved by the local people. The main hall, constructed in the Kamakura period, is designated as a National Treasure, and its elegant form enchants visitors. As a mountain deity, it brings blessings of abundant harvests and family safety, and is affectionately known locally as "Mikami-san."
